Val-de-Grace

Here's one more little morsel from my Au Petit Paris Collection. This short but sweet scarf is named after the most breathtaking Baroque church that I had the amazing privilege to see every morning, noon and night while looking out the window of my tiny little "maid's quarters" apartment in Paris, while living there back in 1990.

An interesting little piece of trivia for you: Val-de-Grace was built on the supposed site of the conception of Louis the XIV of France. The Cupola and Baldachino were modeled after St. Peter's in Rome, and it's the only standing Baroque church left in Paris.

It was my little "Room With a View", and I will never forget it!

Fall Preview-- Au Petit Paris

I really wanted to get back to "my roots" and dig into designing some accessories for my igottknits collection this Fall. My first task was to dive into my fabulous collection of stash yarns. My goal with this collection was to mix and match the same yarns to give a cohesive look to the collection, and to also allow you to "accessorize" your wardrobe in a variety of ways. For example, you can wear the Sorbonne Felted Cloche with the Novotel Neck Cuff for a dramatic look. Or, if you want to get down and funky- Framboise paired up with Sorbonne, would make for an interesting eye-catching ensemble.

What fun it is to be able to use those single and half-skein yarns. If you're like me, you probably have 1 skein of a really gorgeous yarn, and don't know what to do with it, right? A ball here, a skein over there. What's a girl (or guy) to do? I promise that you'll clean out your stash in a flash with some of these new projects coming this Fall.

The first in the group is the Sorbonne Felted Cloche. My goal was to capture a throw back to the Parisian 1920's with a contemporary quirky flare. When I shot this photo on the steps of the Fine Art Museum, it reminded my of the time I sat on the steps of the Sorbonne in Paris with a old beau drinking Burgundy, and taring through a baguette with Camembert cheese. Oh the memories! The cloche is made using one skein of Plymouth Homestead, with contrasting stripes in Cascade 220. The flower is made with little bits of Malabrigo Merino Worsted, Rowan Cocoon, and Plymouth Trabajos del Peru. But of course something from your own stash will do just fine too!

Next up- Novotel Neck Cuff . This couture cuff, made with one skein of Plymouth's ultra-luxurious, Trabajos del Peru. The cuff ends with a lovely ruffle, flaring out dramatically around the neck. The 4 buttons are optional, but they definitely add a fashion-forward touch!

Moving along, I would like to present Madeline Petit Purse. This sweet felted purse is made using 2 skeins of Brown Sheep Top of the Lamb Worsted. The various circular shapes are worked using Malagrigo Merino Worsted, Rowan Cocoon, Plymouth Homestead, but feel free to add your own creative flair and use any feltable stash yarns to suit your taste.

Our next little confection, Framboise, is easy as can be to make! This little number is made with 2 skeins of Rowan Cocoon, and is worked in garter stitch, alternating 2 colors throughout. The scarf starts and ends with a whimsical and simple knit-on fringe. The 2" button gives a special touch to this edgy design.

Stay tuned for these patterns on the igottknits website soon!

Knitting Out & About

It was good to get out last night and knit a stitch or two with the "Fiber Fanatics" at my local Panera. (Hmmm...thought I was going to Stitch & Bitch all this time ) Anyhew, getting out and knitting in public is something I rarely do, and should probably get in the habit of it more often. My usual thing is to put on the comfy yoga pants, and knit on the couch, but that would put me to sleep anyway. There was once a time when I didn't think that knitting groups were for me. I didn't think I would get anything out of hanging out with a bunch of knitters. I mean what do we really have in common other than loving to knit? I was pleasantly surprised to have found some wonderful friendships, great advice and lively conversation.

So what really provoked me to finally sit here and get my a--- in gear again to write some good posts was a discussion that started up between me and a fellow knitter, Natalie who runs her very popular blog Barknknit. We were talking about the time and preparation it takes to construct a blog post, and in her case, her weekly podcast. But then I thought for a moment- is it really that overwhelming to post some good, hardcore information twice per week? I think not. If it takes me merely an hour to plan and write my posts for the week, what the heck is just one hour? Geez. I have no excuses. Well, maybe having a one year old constantly grabbing at my mouse and wanting to try his hand at "blogging" instead of mommy, well that might be a great excuse. Serenity now.....

I'm finally kicking things off for fall with my latest pattern- Roman Holiday. I just loved making this bottom-up sweater! I love working with DK weight yarn, and I thought Schaefer's new super wash merino Nichole would be perfect. I chose the color Ash. My first thought was to work fully fashioned increases and decreases for the waist shaping sections, but as my husband always likes to remind me: K.I.S.S. So, I decided that ribbing for the bottom half of this pullover was the most logical choice to keep this design simple and straight forward. My philosophy is- The most brilliant designs are easy and basic in construction, while at the same time being innovative, timely and fashion-forward.

And a few more details...

Over the next few weeks, I'll be launching some new Fall designs that I can't wait to show and tell! I'll also be holding a giveaway for my new book It's In The Bag, on sale August 10th, as well as another DellaQ bag giveaway! So don't miss out, and I promise to keep sharing the love!

The perfect first outfit to welcome home baby from the hospital!
Made in Tahki Torino 100 Series, this supersoft 100% merino is perfect against baby's skin. This peice is worked mostly in the round, with minimal finishing.

The embroidered accents in two complimentary colors, really give this design a unqiue touch.

All You Need is Love (AKA Yarn)

Once again, the Yarn Fairy delivered yet another lovely box of yarn to my doorstep! (Ok, it was really the UPS guy) As I gleefully picked up the box, a surge of excitement rushed through every fiber of my being.... is this enough drama for you? To my surprise, my Rowan order finally arrived! Upon opening the box, I marveled at the luxurious variety of Silk Wool and Wool Cotton yarns, all the while giggling at my child-like excitement.

I can't wait to get started on my new pattern line! My focus for Spring will all about Onesies. The first in the group: Welcome Home Onesie is available for download from our online retailers. You can also get a hard copy version from your local yarn shop soon. For more information, visit the igottknits website. Yarn store retailers, visit our distributor: Deep South Fibers.

My little baby boy London has certainly inspired some exciting new ideas. Before he came along, all I wanted to design was cute, frilly pink things. Having a boy has finally released a new creative outlet. This new collection is not your usual pink-blue-green-yellow baby kind of colors, but rather an unexpected approach. I've selected a "safari-inspired" palette, along with the usual classic pink and blue in the bunch.

Can't wait for the next box to arrive........
